Super Eagles star Mikel Obi recently revealed what his former Chelsea teammate Eden Hazard told him about his time at Real Madrid, Soccernet.ng reported.
Hazard was a key player alongside Mikel at Stamford Bridge for five seasons and had a successful spell at Chelsea before moving to Real Madrid.
However, the Belgian reportedly did not like Mikel’s previous comments on Obione’s podcast about Hazard’s work ethic.
In a conversation on Vibewithfive, Mikel highlighted Hazard’s reaction to his previous comments and provided insight into the challenges Hazard faced in Spain.
The former Real Madrid striker appears to have expressed difficulty adapting to the training program due to repeated injuries.
“I was talking to him on the phone the other day.” He picked up the phone and said, “You!” “You’re talking shit about me,” he said. I laughed. “I think, I know, I know, I’m not talking crap about you. I want to say how good it was.”
Mikel further elaborated on Hazard’s views on training, saying that Hazard tried to work harder at the Santiago Bernabéu but faced physical limitations that frequently led to injury.
“He said, “When I went to Madrid, I looked at myself and said, Okay, let’s try, let’s try a little bit. It started hurting me. My body couldn’t take it. That’s why I looked at it and said I was going to quit,” Hazard reportedly confessed.
Mikel also revealed that Hazard had received an offer to move to Saudi Arabia, but there were no financial implications.
Hazard’s promising career at Real Madrid attracted high expectations, but his results fell short of expectations as he was unable to fill the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure from the club.
