Osimhen gets new coach at Napoli following Garcia’s exit

Napoli were in talks with Igor Tudor, but the deal fell apart as the two sides were unable to reach a compromise.

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is Napoli’s new manager, with the club appointing Walter Mazzarri to lead the team until the end of the season, Soccer reported.

Last season, Napoli won the Scudetto for the first time in 33 years. The team was led by Luciano Spalletti, who was his coach and featured attackers such as Viktor Osimhen and Hviča Kvaratskhelia. Osimhen was named the best striker in Serie A with his 26 goals and 4 assists, while Kvaratskhelia won the league’s best player award with his 12 goals and 13 assists.

However, after the super season, coach Spalletti left the team, first taking a vacation and then heading to Italy. Napoli then appointed French tactician Rudy Galka as his successor.

Unfortunately, this season did not go well for the Serie A champions as they were unable to maintain the level of last season. They currently sit in fourth place in Italy’s top flight, 10 points behind rivals Inter Milan.

Due to poor performance, the club released Garcia on Monday. There was also talk that he was close to agreeing a contract with former Marseille manager Igor Tudor. However, this deal fell through.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the club decided to appoint Mazzarri after agreeing to personal terms. The Italian will take over the job until the end of the season.

This is Mazzarri’s second time as Napoli’s manager. In his first appearance, he formed a dangerous front line with Ezequiel Lavezzi, Marek Hamsik and Edinson Cavani. This attack was one of his most deadly attacks in the 2011/2012 season.

If Mazzarri does well, Osimhen could have a very fun attack. The Eagles star could surpass his previous record of 26 goals.
