Real Sociedad boss Alguacil backs Sadiq Umar to pick form after slow restart

Umar has not been able to showcase his skills since returning from injury, but Alguacil is confident the Nigerian will show his potential one day.

Real Sociedad coach Imanol Algucil Alguacil is optimistic that Super Eagles striker Sadiq Umar will score soon despite not feeling wellSoccer reported.

Umar joined Real Sociedad from Almeria last season in a deal worth 20 million euros, making him the club’s biggest ever contract. Expectations were high for him, especially since he had a good season with Almería, scoring 18 goals and providing 12 assists in 36 games, helping Almería gain promotion to La Liga.

The 26-year-old got off to a strong start, scoring on his debut for Real Sociedad. Unfortunately, he ruptured his cruciate ligament in his third game for the club and was sidelined for the rest of the season.

Umar returned to training during the holidays, but did not play in any of Real Sociedad’s preseason games. He made his return to competition in August, when Real He came on as a substitute in the match that Sociedad and Girona drew 1-1 for him.

The 26-year-old has played 12 games in all competitions for Tuli Urdin this season and has provided just one assist. Umar didn’t look as sharp as he used to.

Real Sociedad coach Alguacil has supported the Nigerian striker since his injury. And he came forward again to express his support for Umar.

“It (Oumar’s injury) is one of the most complicated things for a player,” said AlguacilOma Akatugba.

“When you have such a serious injury and are out of the game for so long, it’s hard to get into a rhythm.

“When we signed him, he was at a great stage and had a great season in the second division. Now he is at Real Sociedad, who are playing in the Champions League. He hopes to continue competing with the aim of participating in next year’s tournament.

“He is an important person. I think Umar has done a good job and this will allow him to compete and help us at a higher level than what he showed in Almeria. .”

Despite Umar’s poor performance, Real Sociedad are having a decent season. They are in seventh place in La Liga, six points adrift of Champions League qualification. And they are currently at the top of the UCL group. They have already booked a spot in the round of 16.
