NPFL put pen to paper with Startimes for five year TV broadcast deal

The governing body of the Nigeria Professional Football League signed a $5 million broadcast deal with Propel Sports Africa earlier this year.

The governing body of the Nigeria Professional Football League has signed an exclusive five-year broadcast agreement with digital broadcasting company StarTimes Nigeria, reports Soccernet.ng.

StarTimes Nigeria is the only company with the rights to televise league matches, so this deal will allow Nigerians to watch NPFL matches and highlights from the comfort of their homes and TVs.

Negotiations have already been underway since the mobile broadcasting agreement was signed with Propel Sports Africa earlier this year, and the agreement was signed today at the Sheraton Hotel in Abuja in the presence of NPFL and NFF representatives. The Star Times contract was confirmed at the ceremony.

It has been confirmed that the contract period is five years and the valuation is approximately 1.6 billion naira, with the possibility of an annual increase of 50 million naira.

Coverage is scheduled to begin on November 18, 2023, with two NPFL matches broadcast to viewers via StarTimes decoders and mobile applications.

However, to make the matches accessible to more viewers, the coverage will be expanded to include four matches every weekend for the next two years, starting February 18, 2024.

This news will come as a relief to fans at home and abroad. This is because not only will it serve as a platform to watch the league from the comfort of your home, but in doing so it will also bring NPFL content to an international audience. Exports attract more investors.
