Mourinho signed Mikel from Chelsea in 2006 and the Nigerian midfielder went on to become one of the club’s most successful and influential figures.

Mikel played 119 games in two different spells under Mourinho and was one of Portugal’s most trusted tacticians. Until recently, Mourinho had a knack for causing problems for his players. Roma’s manager had a talent for degrading his players in order to get the most out of them.

In a recent interview, Mikel revealed more about this topic. He explained that Mourinho hated to lose and he would always get upset when he lost a match.

“With Mourinho, as long as we win, we’re fine,” Mikel said on the Obi One podcast.

“As long as you play well, you’re his best friend. As long as everything is going well, you’ll be fine.

“But I remember that when we lost an important game, he would always stay in the upstairs office for several days.

“He never came to practice, never said a word to anyone. When you say hello to him in the morning, he walks past you. He never comes to the restaurant. It won’t come.

“We won’t see him for a few days until he gets back on the pitch and wins again.”

“This shows the standard he always wanted to achieve. He wants us to do our best, perform well in training and win matches. Sometimes it was a little too much, but we always found a way to deal with it.

Mourinho’s tactics at Chelsea resulted in them winning the Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup.
