Atalanta’s Okoli features as Cagliari and Frosinone enter Serie A record books with seven-goal thriller

Super Eagles-qualified defender Caleb Okoli came on in the second half for Frosinone’s 4-3 loss to Cagliari in Serie A on Sunday afternoon, Soccernet.ng reports.

For the first 70 minutes of the match in front of thousands of fans at Unipol Domus, Frosinone were the better team.

Matthias Soule doubled his team’s lead with the visitors’ first goal in the 23rd minute, shortly after Cagliari’s Marco Mancos missed a penalty.

Four minutes into the second half, Frosinone increased their lead to 3-0 when Marco Brescianini slotted the ball into the net from close range.

The home side looked doomed until Gaetano Oristanio equalized in the 72nd minute.

Four minutes later, the gap in the Frosinone defense widened and Cagliari made it 2-3 with a goal from Antoine Makumbou.

With Atalanta trying to contain Cagliari’s attacks, Francesco brought on Atalanta loanee Okoli in place of Marco Bresciannini in the 81st minute.

Okoli’s presence was immediately felt when he entered the referee’s tally as a professional tackle shortly afterwards.

However, there was no stopping Cagliari’s comeback when Leonardo Pavoletti made the score 3-3 with a header four minutes into stoppage time.

Pavoletti then scored the winning goal, giving Cagliari their first win of the season and completing the hosts’ turnaround.

 

According to the League Association, Cagliari’s victory made them the first team in Serie A history to win a match from three points behind after 70 minutes.
