Watch: Pat Cummins laughed when asked about England’s heavy defeat to Sri Lanka yesterday (October 26) during a pre-match press conference on the eve of the Australia-New Zealand World Cup 2023 match.
Cummins took part in the customary pre-match presentation ahead of the game against Trans-Tasman on October 27. One of the journalists asked the Australian captain a tough question, asking him about his reaction to arch-rivals England’s disastrous defeat to Sri Lanka.
“You mentioned your close friends in other teams. I can imagine you would have been heartbroken if England had lost last night. Did you react?” the journalist asked.
Mr. Cummins was surprised and couldn’t hold back his laughter at the answer. He hesitantly shook his shoulder and gave her a shy smile. I don’t have much leeway. ”
The last time Australia played England in 2023, they kept the urn. Although there were some good performances in this series, controversies on and off the field further fueled the rivalry. The 2023 edition had it all, from discussions over Baristow’s departure from Australia, where he was reported to have skipped drinks with his opponents after the Ashes and enjoyed himself at a bar afterwards. Even though time has passed since the series concluded, the war of words has not stopped.
