Jamil Collins moved from Bundesliga club S.C. in May 2022. He moved from Paderborn to Cardiff City Football Club, but played little for the Bluebirds.

Super Eagles full-back Jamil Collins has revealed the reason for his withdrawal from the national team during the international break against Saudi Arabia, reported Soccernet.ng.

Collins, 29, was a regular at Bundesliga club SC during their time in Germany’s top flight. Paderborn before being relegated to the Bundesliga second division.

His transfer to Cardiff City was confirmed on 15 May 2022, but shortly afterwards, after just four games for his new team, he suffered a cruciate ligament tear, an injury that ruled him out for the entire season. I will be absent.

Kaduna-born Collins described the injury as “horrible” and said it felt like a new knee, but has since become a regular starter for the Bluebirds and has played in 11 Championship games so far this season. He is participating in the match.

During the October international break, Collins was initially called up by Super Eagles coach Jose Peceiro to be part of the squad to play friendlies against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique, but was suspended for the Super Eagles’ 25th time. It was only for a period.

Ahead of Cardiff’s game against Bristol City, the left-back finally revealed the reasons behind his decision not to travel to Portugal before the game.

The Abuja Football College Academy graduate explained that he was advised by the club’s coach, Mr. Erol Bluto, not to go there due to injury issues.

It’s my fault that I couldn’t go to the national team. I was out for a long time and the coach wanted to rest due to a hamstring problem, so I told him not to do that. I think this advice was correct for me,” Collins said on the club’s official website.

The 29-year-old has enjoyed playing football in the Championship and across England and wants to make the most of it.

“I always wanted to play for England. I always wanted to try this football and I was really happy to come to Cardiff,” he added.

Erol Brutto’s side currently sit seventh in the Championship with 20 points from their first 13 games, while Kelechi Iheanacho’s Leicester are top of the table with 36 points.
