Brydon Carse Named Replacement For Injured Reece Topley In England Team

The England team has signed pacer Brydon Kearse to replace Reece Topley. Topley fractured his finger in his ICC World Cup 2023 final match against South Africa in Mumbai.

Topley was injured while bowling while trying to stop the ball in the match against South Africa in Mumbai on Saturday and left the field unsatisfied. However, Topley appeared with tape on his fingers late in the innings, and in addition he took two of his wickets.

However, scans revealed the extent of his injuries and he was forced to withdraw from the event. Head coach Matthew Mott has already ruled out Jofra Archer as a possible replacement, but he is also undergoing rehabilitation from an injury and will join the group in India.

This injury is just the latest in a terrible list for Topley, who has experienced many setbacks throughout his career. Topley suffered a freak accident ahead of his 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia when he fell on a billboard near the edge of the field during catching practice and damaged ligaments.

He previously suffered a series of stress fractures in his back that required surgery. He then faced a difficult road to recovery until he became an important member of the England white-ball team.

“Poor boy, there seems to be no end in sight for him. Every time he performs very well and plays well in cricket, he seems to suffer setbacks, according to ESPNCricinfo ” said Joe Root.

Brydon Carse Approved By ICC As Replacement Player

Brydon Kearse has been appointed by the England and Wales Cricket Board to replace Topley and approved by the ICC Events Technical Committee. Kearse played for England in 12 ODIs and 3 T20Is from 2021 to 2023.

Kears is expected to arrive in Bangalore ahead of England’s match against Sri Lanka on Thursday, but is unlikely to be considered for selection as he has not played in a game for four weeks.

After performing well in the T20I series, he featured in one of England’s four one-day internationals against New Zealand last month and also played for the second team against Ireland.

Kears, 28, was born in South Africa but holds a British passport and plays domestic cricket for Durham and Northern Superchargers.

“He’s a great asset overall. He can score some useful runs for you, is very dynamic on the field and has a unique ability to take wickets. There’s an element of (Ben) Stokes in him and sometimes you feel like he’s taking wickets when nothing is happening,” Root said.
