Hamilton, Leclerc disqualified from US GP as Norris/Sainz gain

The FIA has disqualified Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc from the F1 GP in the United States for a technical violation that cost them a podium place.

Everything seemed to be going well after the F1 American Grand Prix, until an FIA document in which the technical representative pointed out technical violations against Mercedes driver Hamilton and Ferrari driver Leclerc during a follow-up inspection. Also included Max Verstappen and Lando Norris checked the same.

Verstappen and Norris passing these tests had to do with the plates and their wear. “Physical floor and board wear tests were conducted on cars 16 and 44,” the memo said. “We found that there are runners in the -825 ≥ range.”

FIA also accepts 9 mm after wear, but it must be 10 mm +- 0.2 mm. However, Hamilton and Leclerc’s two cars did not meet the requirements. As a result, both are disqualified, losing his 2nd place and his 6th place respectively, meaning a significant point reduction.

Teams cited the uneven nature of the course associated with sprint weekends, but the FIA pointed out that the onus was on teams to address these thoroughly. This moved McLaren’s Lando Norris into second place, with Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz on the podium in third place.

Red Bull’s Sergio Perez was 4th, Mercedes’ George Russell was 5th, Alpine’s Pierre Gasly was 6th, Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll was 7th, AlphaTauri’s Yuki Tsunoda was 8th. Williams’ pair of Alexander Albon and Logan Sargent finished 9th and 10th. .

Thus, it was Sargent’s first points at his home race, and with his future in F1 being debated, Nico Hulkenberg was 11th, Valtteri Bottas was 12th, Guanyu Chou was 13th and Kevin Magnussen was ranked 14th. Daniel Ricciardo is 15th.
