Watch: ‘Goodness Me, That’s A Rarity’ – Jadeja Drops A Sitter, Gifts Ravindra Early Reprieve

Watch: Ravindra Jadeja dropped an easy catch off Rachin Ravindra at point off the bowling of Mohammed Shami during the India-New Zealand clash at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala today (October 22).

New Zealand was sent into battle by India after losing the toss. India made two changes to their squad. Hardik Pandya was replaced by Surrakumar Yadav and Shardul Thakur was replaced by Mohammed Shami.

New Zealand got off to a poor start and lost a soft dismissal in the fourth over of the innings when Devon Conway flicked a delivery from Mohammed Siraj straight to Shreyas Iyer at square leg.

Will Young followed soon after, hitting the stumps with a back ball from Mohamed Shami. Incidentally, this was Shami’s first delivery in this World Cup. With the score at 19-2, New Zealand had to rebuild. But they could have been in more trouble when Rachin Ravindra played a long ball from Shami to Jadeja in Shami’s next over.

Jadeja, one of the surest fielders in world cricket, missed an easy chance and gave Ravindra an early reprieve, but managed to turn it into a cracker. “Oh my god, this is so rare,” exclaimed Simon Dole on commentary.

Since then, Ravindra and Darryl Mitchell have formed a solid partnership for the third wicket. At the end of 23 overs, New Zealand’s score was his 110-2, with Ravindra hitting 50 for his 56 and Mitchell hitting 38 for his 46.

Before this match, Ravindra has already scored one and a half centuries in the 2023 World Cup. This is the third time he has scored over 50 points in this tournament. It remains to be seen how much the lost prey will ultimately be worth.
