There is also good news. Opening batsman Abdullah Shafiq, who was one of the best substitutes for Fakhar during the World Cup, was quarantined after contracting a viral infection. Shafiq felt better and trained with the team.

In fact, apart from Fakhar and Salman, one out of every two Pakistani cricketers is selected in Bangalore.

Australia has its own fitness updates. Travis Head’s broken hand has recovered faster than expected and he will soon join the Indian team. Head will miss the match against Pakistan but could be available for the match against Netherlands on October 25.

Pakistan are currently fourth in the points table with 4 points from 3 matches and a net run rate of -0.137. Australia in 7th place has scored 2 points in the same number of games and has a net run rate of -0.734.
