The New Zealand all-rounder is no stranger to making great catches in the field. Today in the World Cup against Afghanistan, he once again proved his strength on the field.
On the last ball of the 13th over, pacer Lockie Ferguson bowled a short ball aimed at Shahidi. When the ball was in the air, the captain mistimed the pull. At first it looked as if the ball would fall behind the next field player, Santner. However, the acrobatic fielder gave chase with all his might. He jumped up from the feat, backed away and threw his body to the left. In the next moment, he popped the ball out of the air, while it was still on the ground. His fireworks ended Shahidi’s poor innings in the eighth innings (29). Afghanistan he fell back 43:3.
Sunil Gavaskar described the catch as “out of this world.”
Earlier, New Zealand scored 288-6 after being sent to bat first. Tom Latham, 68, and Glenn Phillips, 71, revived the innings after a collapse dropped them from 109-1 to 110-4 on nine pitches.
