ICC Rankings Update: Trent Boult One Point Off Top Spot, Rohit And De Kock Make Gains

Rohit Sharma’s explosive start to the 2023 World Cup and Quinton de Kock’s back-to-back centuries have pushed them up the ICC’s men’s ODI batting rankings.

In the latest ranking update after the third round, Rohit has moved up five places in the top 10 to sit at 6th place. He currently has 719 points, seven points ahead of David Warner and 10 points ahead of fifth-place Harry Tector. Rohit became the fastest Indian player to score a hundred against Afghanistan in the Men’s ODI World Cup, making up for the six-ball duck in India’s opener against Australia. He then continued his team’s perfect start by scoring a half-century against Pakistan.

De Kock scored multiple goals in both of South Africa’s opening games and also rose in the rankings. The wicketkeeper-batsman scored 100 off 84 balls against Sri Lanka and 109 off 106 balls against Australia. However, his century streak ended with South Africa’s shocking 20-point bowl-out defeat to the Netherlands, and a first-class collapse began. De Kock moved up three places in the rankings, overtaking his teammate Rassie van der Dussen for third place. He is still far behind his second place Shubman Gil and can close the gap of 76 points.

Elsewhere in the batting rankings, Rahmanullah Gurbaz has climbed 19 places to 18th after his short half-century against England. Dutch captain Scott Edwards made an unbeaten 78 off 69 balls which led to his team’s win against South Africa and moved him up 16 places to 27th place.

At the bowlers’ table, Trent Boult has closed the gap on Josh Hazlewood at the top. The New Zealand left-back has moved up one place and is now just one point behind second place. This moved Mohammad Siraj to number three after Boult’s devastating pitch against Bangladesh. He retired Lytton Das on the first pitch of the game, then retired Towahid Fridois, finishing with 2 wins and 45 losses.

Jasprit Bumrah also moved up in the rankings after the disastrous defeat against Pakistan, moving up seven places to 14th. Kagiso Rabada picked up his 150th ODI wicket against the Netherlands, moving him up one spot alongside Bumrah.

Rashid Khan is now fourth in the bowler rankings, moving up two places to become the highest-ranked spinner. Shakib Al Hasan remains at the top of the all-rounder rankings, with Mitchell Santner (6th) and Glenn Maxwell (8th) both having great starts to the World Cup.
