Dele Bashir was born in Hamburg to Nigerian parents and was eligible to play for Germany, Nigeria and England. However, he chose to represent his Eagles in Super.

The 22-year-old was called up to the Super Eagles camp for the first time ahead of games against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique. He was the only new player in José’s 25-man team of Peceiro.

The Super Eagles began training for the two matches on Wednesday, with Dele Bashir receiving the traditional welcome from senior players and staff at the Portugal camp.

As part of the welcome ceremony, Dele Bashir had to sing a Nigerian song in front of other players and staff during dinner.

The 22-year-old could well make his debut for Nigeria in one of the next two matches. His next two matches are unimportant and will serve as a testing ground before his 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast next January.
