Kusal Mendis Taken To Hospital After Suffering From Cramps Following Epic Century Against Pakistan

Kusal Mendis has been taken to the hospital after suffering from cramps following his century against Pakistan at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad today (October 10).

Mendis reached his third ODI century by scoring 122 off just 77 balls against Pakistan at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Mendis came into bat in the second over of the innings after Kusal Perera’s wicket fell and did not hold back as he faced the likes of Shaheen Afridi.

All Pakistan’s bowlers were looked at with disdain as Mendis displayed every shot – drives, cuts, pulls, hooks, slogs. He reached his hundred in just 65 balls, making it his sixth-fastest century in the history of the Men’s ODI World Cup.

Mendis hit 2 and scored 2 runs against Hasan Ali, but was eventually dismissed in the 29th over despite attempting his third consecutive six. Later, Sadira Samarawickrama took over the management. He scored 108 runs off his 89 balls and reached his maiden ODI century.

Sri Lanka posted 344-9 in 50 overs and set a big target for Pakistan. However, when Sri Lanka took to the field, it was Samarawickrama who came out with the keeper’s gloves and Mendis was nowhere to be seen. p >

Sri Lanka Cricket later released a statement announcing that Mendis, after making a spectacular century in the first innings, complained of cramps and had to be taken to hospital. Dusan Hemantha came on the field as a substitute in place of Mendis.

Further reports are expected regarding Mendis’ condition, but it is not expected to be serious. Mendis was in top form and had already scored 75 points or more in two games at the World Cup. Sri Lanka hopes he can return to the field soon and be ready for the next match against Australia in Lucknow on October 16.
