Mikel Obi endorses Nigerian forward as Chelsea’s ideal striker

Mikel Obi left Chelsea in 2017 after 11 years at Stamford Bridge, recommending the Nigerian striker as the ideal signing for the London club.

Former Super Eagles star Mikel Obi has suggested that Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen would be the perfect striker for his former club Chelsea FC, Soccernet.ng reports.

On the Obi Wan Podcast podcast, the former Stoke City midfielder predicted that the 24-year-old goalscorer could develop and score a lot of goals in the English Premier League.

Osimhen has been linked with a move away from Napoli after a controversial video was posted on the club’s TikTok account, which strained their relationship.

Chelsea, the 2016-17 Premier League champions, have emerged as one of Osimhen’s main suitors, as they hope he will follow in the footsteps of his idol Didier Drogba.

Mikel, now 36, has expressed hope that Osimhen will move to Chelsea, despite reported interest from Manchester United.

“I think if you look back at him from a few years ago, but you look at last season and this season, you can definitely say that.”

“He’ll come to the Premier League and fit in there. He’ll score goals, he’ll chase defenders, he’ll challenge teams, which is probably what a lot of teams are doing. I think ‘strikers like to run behind defenders because it helps the team,’ Mikel said.

While the transfer situation remains unclear with no comment from Osimhen’s camp or Napoli, Chelsea and Manchester United continue to be linked with the talented Nigerian striker.

In the meantime, Napoli may have to consider selling him to avoid losing him on a free transfer or a reduced fee.
