Heinrich Claassen, a wicketkeeper and destructive middle-order batsman, has no bowling career to speak of, but he was called up to bowl by Aiden Markram, who replaced Themba Bavuma as captain.
He bowled 3 overs without a wicket in the warm-up game, conceding 23 runs. The highlight of his tenure was the shocking no-ball againstDevon Conway that everyone was crazy about.
The ball slipped from Claassen’s hands and flew over Conway and then over wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock. In other words, the ultimate moonball. Klaasen couldn’t believe his eyes and muttered, “Oh no,” in surprise.
Chasing 322, South Africa were in good shape with 211-4 from 37 overs until heavy rain started. Bavma’s team lost the match by seven points (DLS method) despite an unbeaten record with de Kock scoring 84 points, Rassie van der Dussen scoring 50 points, and Claassen scoring 39 points off 37 balls.
