New Zealand Captain Kane Williamson To Miss World Cup Opening Match Against England

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson is expected to miss the opening match of the 2023 ICC World Cup against England on October 5 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Williamson is still recovering from his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear while playing the first match of IPL 2023.

It looked like Williamson would miss the World Cup completely, but he recovered in time to be named captain of the New Zealand team for the 2023 ICC World Cup. New Zealand played a number of warm-up matches ahead of their first meetings with Pakistan and South Africa. Williamson hopes to play in one, if not both, games to test his surgically repaired knee.

“I really want to be involved as much as I can. Basically just progressing in what I’m doing, running, fielding, time in the middle with a bat. It’s going well. However, we continue to have days that are a little different. Therefore, it is important for us to overcome these warm-up games and get as much results as possible as a team without putting too much strain on ourselves. The burden will continue to increase. Yes, but there is some uncertainty. “But I felt really good the last few weeks,” the 33-year-old told Cricbuzz.

Williamson indicated he may consider changing his field position once he returns to the field after his injury.

“From the beginning, we took a long-term view of Kane’s return to the game. His recovery has been going well and we are now confident that he will be able to cope with the rigors and intensity of international cricket. “It’s a matter of whether we can do it or not. We will continue to rehabilitate Kane day by day and we will not put pressure on him to come back before he is ready,” New Zealand Cricket quoted Kane as saying.
