Italian Serie A champions Napoli have issued a statement regarding Victor Osimhen’s viral video posted on the club’s TikTok account, Soccernet reported.
After Napoli missed a penalty in a goalless draw with Bologna at the weekend, a TikTok video mocking the 24-year-old was posted on the club’s official TikTok account. This development caused many reactions.
Osimhen has deleted most of his Napoli-related posts from his Instagram account, including a video of him abusing team-mates when he entered the club’s facilities.
Surprisingly, the Super Eagles striker played and scored in Wednesday’s 4-1 win over Udinese.
Napoli has released a statement regarding this matter. The club said it had no ill will toward Osimhen.
“Calcio Napoli wishes to avoid exploiting this matter and points out that it never intended to insult or ridicule Victor Osimhen, a treasure of this club.” writes the club. p >
“As evidence of this, during the summer training break, the club categorically rejected all offers to move the striker abroad.”
“Social media, especially TikTok, has always used the language of expressive forms with lightness of mind and creativity, without the intention of insulting or ridiculing, as in the case of the protagonist Osimhen .”
“If Victor felt disrespected towards him, that was never the club’s intention.”
Despite the announcement, the club did not provide any information about the motives behind the TikTok video. Osimhen had previously held contract negotiations with Napoli. Therefore, he may not intend to extend his stay at the club.
