Sri Lanka Squad For The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023; Wanindu Hasaranga Named As Well  

Sri Lanka’s squad for the next ICC World Cup 2023 has reportedly been announced on September 26, 2023. Apart from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh is also yet to officially announce their 15-member squad for the World Cup tournament.

The 2023 ICC World Cup begins on October 5 in India. A total of 10 teams will compete to win the trophy. 48 games will be played during the tournament. The 2023 ICC World Cup final is scheduled to be held on November 19th.

Sri Lanka will begin their participation in the 2023 ICC World Cup on October 7 against South Africa. The match between Sri Lanka and South Africa will be held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Sri Lanka were forced to compete in the ICC World Cup qualifiers to be held in Zimbabwe as they were unable to qualify directly. Sri Lanka defeated every team in the tournament and also won in the final to qualify for the World Cup.

Dasun Shanaka Named Captain Of Sri Lanka World Cup 2023 Squad; Wanindu Hasaranga Named As Well

Dasun Shanaka will be the captain of Sri Lanka in the 2023 World Cup and Kusal Mendis will be the vice-captain. Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Perera, Dimuskarunaratne, Sadira Samara Wickrama, Dhanan Jayade and his Silva are the batsmen of the team.

Charith Asalanka and Dunith Wellalage are the all-rounders while Matheesha Pathirana, Lahiru Kumara and Kasun Rajitha are the pacers. Sri Lanka has strong players in the spin department such as Mahish Teekshana and Wanindu Hasaranga. However, the inclusion of Theekshana and Hasaranga is subject to suitability.

According to reports, Mahesh Teekshana and Wanindu Hasaranga will not travel to India with the team on Tuesday night, with Teekshana expected to join the team in a week after fully recovering from his injury.

It is very unlikely that Wanindu Hasaranga will play in the World Cup after recovering from injury.

Dushan Hemanta and Chamika Karunaratne are mobile sanctuaries. The Sri Lankan team will leave for India on Tuesday evening.
