The Nigeria international got into a duel with his coach at the end of Napoli’s disappointing away draw with Bologna at the weekend.
Napoli have decided not to fine Victor Osimhen for the Super Eagles striker’s actions in Sunday’s Serie A match against Bologna, Soccernet.ng reported.
The Serie A champions endured another difficult encounter in Bologna, but the Napoli team continued their start to the season.
Osimhen came closest to Napoli’s goal, but he saw the Bologna goalkeeper hit the post with his shot in the first half, and he also scored a penalty that went over the post in the second half.
In the 86th minute, Coach Garcia replaced Osimhen with Argentine striker Giovanni Simeone. However, the Nigerian attacker did not take the decision well and yelled at his head coach on the sideline.
Osimhen faced a possible fine from Napoli after the match with Garcia, and the club was expected to discourage other players from such behavior.
However, the Nigerian striker reportedly apologized to coach Garcia and his teammates in the dressing room and expressed his desire to always win behind the abuse.
According to Sky Sports, Napoli have waived the option to fine Osimhen as the matter has been resolved within the team.
According to Francesco Modugno of Sky Sports: “Will it be good for Osimhen? That won’t happen. The decision was to resolve the issue in the locker room.
“The player spoke with the captain and DS Meluso and realized that he had made a mistake. What he did in Bologna was indescribable.
“What’s the replacement? On a personality level, the coach lacked leadership as the boy had missed some goals in the last few games and wanted to help the team win.”
Earlier, Garcia had downplayed the conflict with Osimhen, claiming it was already resolved.
Al Nasr’s former coach expressed his opinion on Osimhen’s missed penalty, but refused to reveal what was discussed on the sideline after the match.
Garcia said: “Even the greatest players in the history of football missed penalties. When he left, we talked about it. What I told the players will remain in the locker room. /p>
“We have a lot of quality in the team and on the bench, so we brought in Simeone, (Matteo) Politano, (Elif) Hermas. We also have Jesper (Lindström). All this quality. With that, especially with four games in nine days, you can’t always play the same players for 90 minutes.”
Osimhen has scored three goals in Serie A this season, but the 24-year-old netted his last goal 30 days ago in Napoli’s win over Sassuolo.
