18-Year-Old Musheer Khan Continues Red-Hot Form With Maiden First-Class Hundred In Ranji Trophy Knockouts

Musheer Khan, the 18-year-old brother of new India star Sarfaraz Khan, made a solo-effort hundred, his first in first-class cricket, for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy quarter-finals as he continued his excellent run of form in the Under-19 World Cup into senior cricket.

The right-hander appeared at No. 3 after his first opener in half a century and led his team to 248 wins and 5 losses at stumps despite receiving limited support. Baroda took wickets regularly, with Prithvi Shaw’s 33 and Hardik Tamoa’s unbeaten 30 being the second highest scorers, but Mushir ensured that Mumbai did not miss out. He hit his 10 four-balls in his 216-pitch inning, so he will continue his plans to score big tomorrow.

Ajinkya Rahane’s poor run in Mumbai continues as the state captain was dismissed for three penalties. Bhargav Butt was Baroda’s star bowler with 4 wins and 82 losses. Mumbai were top of Elite Group B but entered the match without injured Indian stars Shreyas Iyer and Shivam Dube.

This paved the way for Mushir, who played three matches for Mumbai in the 2022-23 Ranji Trophy season but failed to make a noticeable impact, to play his first first-class game in over a year. But outside of top-class cricket, he has been in great form coming into the game, finishing as second-highest scorer at the U-19 World Cup and scoring double hundreds against New Zealand and Ireland. India lost to Australia in the final.

It’s been a proud few months for the Khan family. Mushir and Sarfaraz have both risen through the ranks, with the elder brother making a double century for India A before being called up to the Test squad, and then impressing with a half-century on debut. He was dismissed in the first innings and unbeaten in the second, which means he has not yet been dismissed by the bowler. Sarfaraz increased his first-class average to over 70 as the innings progressed. Musher’s numbers at this early stage are he 44.80.
